Numpty question about oiling a saddle

My saddle squeaks pretty badly and it's becoming embarrassing!

I've been told to oil it, am I right in thinking I should oil everywhere except the seat? I don't want an oily bum!

oil everywhere i would, just simply wipe over with a cloth to remove excess oil after it has had a chance to soak in

Oil all with neatsfoot. It soaks in within an hour or so. So long as its leather and not synthetic.

If you really MUST oil it (and I wouldn't) then only oil the underside.

Do you know where its squeaking?

Only that my saddle suddenly starting squeaking, I oiled it but it still kept squeaking.

My saddler took it back to workshop and found that the tree had broken in 3 places.....someone had dropped my saddle and not told me!

Oh no that's awful! I have checked the tree recently and it seems ok but maybe I should have it checked if the squeaking doesn't stop with oiling

We had a new saddle recently and the saddler told me to use a balm on the smooth bits and oil on the straps and underneath

Yep agree with this, i was told by my saddler not to oil to top side of the leather and only the underside and to use a balm on the top side.

Have you checked it isn’t your stirrups that are rubbing?
