I want to buy the pannier bags sold by Robinsons and I assumed they would go behind the horse's saddle, however I saw some very similar ones from another retailer which said they were designed to go in front of the saddle. Now I'm confused. Does anyone know if the Robinsons one goes in front or behind? Also I'm a bit confused about attaching them if they go behind. My saddle has two D rings on one side but none on the other so not sure how that works as regards attaching the bags to the saddle. Any help on this appreciated.

I had a quick look and see what you mean - but my guess is they're designed to sit behind the saddle. If you were to have them in front you'd need to sit them on a pad to protect the withers.

If you don't have enough D rings, ask your saddler to fit some. A friend of mine with D rings on only one side of her saddle tried to fix up some sort of Velcro substitute on the other and the whole thing went horribly wrong!

Is it the double sided bottle carrier ones? i have similar from shires and the fabric in the middle sits between saddle and numnah, then the straps go through girth strap and back to clip on. We also tie a bit of baler twine around th girth strap further down and through a loop near the bottom corner of the bag part. This stops them flapping when you canter. also we wear them bottle side forward.
hope this helps!
