Bud's been unshod for coming up to 4 years now. We've started doing a lot more jumping recently and getting out and about.

We jumped at an RC area qualifier at the weekend and almost went over where he skidded on the grass round a corner. We steadied up and got time faults for both our rounds. Problem is he's jumping at Kent County in a few weeks. Do glue on shoes ruin their feet? And can you put studs in glue on shoes? Or do we just go back to a full set of traditional shoes (he's a pro at pulling them off, which is why he's unshod and has great feet now)? We're not doing massive heights - 1.10m/1.15m absolute max second round if the course builders mean. Or is there an alternative? We need something as it was very dry ground Sunday when his back end went out from under him!

Told you it was a numpty question...

I am not sure anything wants to jump on unwatered ground. The ground is like concrete and a shod horse with spikes in will really feel it.

Can you find out if Kent is watering.

I'd imagine it would depend on the weather. It's 11th July I'm jumping. But I'd prefer to get shoes on a couple of weeks in advance so he can get used to them if necessary

Have a look at Epona shoes, you can get a stud hole version. I seriously considered them, and may yet use them. At the mo my compromise is that I shoe normally in the eventing season so I can stud, and we have shoes off for 6 months in the winter when everything's on a surface.
