Hi,

I'm sorry, I know this has been done a lot recently, but I just wanted to check something regarding weights?

A girl at our yards dad has recently bought a trailer for her, I'm not sure what type it is, but from what's been mentioned I *think* it's an ifor Williams.

The girls horse is an ex racer, about 16.3 I'd say at a guess.

Girls dad uses a vw passat estate to tow the trailer and has offered to take my horse and I along when they go to shows.. Is this legal?? I would have thought it would be pushing it with their own horse, let alone mine too?

Thanks

Don't do it!

I've looked into this in detail over the last few months

I have a 16.2 who weighs 610kg - prob average weight for a friesian

Your trailer will be about 1000 at least

times the weight of the horse by 2 if carrying another - add on weight of tack water and stuff that you carry

Checkout the braked towing capacity of a passat on http://www.uktow.com/

You will find that it wont be safe - strong poss you wont stop if you have to and the gearbox/clutch might die!

Thank you, this is what I thought. At risk of sounding horrible the people are pretty clueless, the first time they went out in the trailer the partition fell off and onto their horse, as they didnt know how to secure it properly (!) so I was a little dubious! I'll just keep crossing my fingers that I win the lottery so I can get my own transport :D
