ok this is probably a very stupid question but then again this is me lol.

ok basically my mare has been having trouble urinating, she assumes the position but nothing happens i have seen her do this twice, today and yesterday. we have come to the conclusion (at this moment in time) that she probably isn't drinking enough water. so it was suggested i add so salt to her feed and here is where i get stuck. what sort and how much?

right i am going back into my cave to avoid being called stupid names

why not give her a himalayan salt lick.
but in answer to your question normal table salt and i thought it was a tsp full each day

Might sound completely silly but....could it be to do with her being in season or anything? Mine used to always' squat' like that but never do anything whenever she was in season.

Ditto, just what I was going to say!

try adding apple juice of cutting up an apple and putting it in her water to encourage her to drink more. It's what worked for my horse when he refused to touch the water at the new field.

after hovis' post about having that in his water i think i'll give it a miss the last thing she needs is more energy, but i might put an apple in her water so she can apple bob. thanks for the advice

Hello, does she have a bit of a sticky coating down her back legs by any chance? It could be a water infection/cystitis sort of thing. Personally I would get the vet to have a quick look at her asap and possibly catch a water sample from her when or if she does pee, for tests... Hope shes ok though, i hate it when they are not quite right
