Forgive my ignorance - hopefully someone know the answer.

Have a second hand saddle on trial (will be checked for fit by saddler next week) and have noticed 4 wool plugs? down each side of the flocked area that runs down the front of the saddle over the shoulders and under the knee rolls.. No one at my yard has seen this before and I am curious as to why these would be there. Are they just access for flocking?

The saddle is an Ideal Jessica dressage saddle.

Thanks in advance.

Would assume the plugs have been made by someone reflocking saddle so the new flock can be pushed through hole, could be wrong though !

Do you mean on the panel that goes against the horse or up under the flap on the top of the panel?

If it's the first one, which from your description I think it is, it's quilting in the panel, holds the flock in place a bit and is supposed to allow ventilation and grip against the horse but these days not many people use the saddle without cloth or numnah so they are largely redundant!
Also, to get at the flocking when fitting and flocking to your horse if the saddle is a good fit that is, the saddler may need to removed them to do it, they can be put back after flocking but easier to leave out!

If it's the second one, then these are flocking holes we use to add and adjust the flock.

Either way, don't worry about them!
