I am on the look out for a pony to replace my sons soon to be outgrown pony.

I am familiar with re homing of racehorses, but it has crossed my mind to think about re homing a pony, BUT

. does anyone know of any rescue sites in the East Midlands and

.do rescue centres allow their ponies to be ridden and competed.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

rescue pony may not be ideal childs pony, but does not mean you should not at least find out what they have to offer. I would not rush into it though.

in australia the rescue centre will not let you sell/give away the pony or breed from it, but assuming no health issues, you are able to ride, compete and so on as if your own horse. If they adopt out a horse as a companion horse, then pbviously it cannot be ridden.

I would imagine that it is similar in UK.

Speak to Bransby - they have horse and ponies in their fostering scheme - my cob is from there (in my avatar) and she is does everything!! If I remember rightly in the contract the only thing you aren't allowed to do is hunt - it prevents people caning a horse in the hunting field and returning it broken form them to look after as they gaurentee all their horse/ponies a home for life.

Their newsletter for fosterers always has piccies of ponies/horses out and about winning rosettes. There is no gaurentee that you will get a 'ready made' pony though.

Give them a call and see if you are within their rehoming area:)

I am sure tobehonest but I am sure they must get ponies that can be ridden and competed, in fact it would give them very good publicity to actually say look at this pony now sort of story.

I certainly think it's worthwhile looking as not all horses and ponies that end up at a rescue/charity have issues, there are many reasons they are there BUT, obviously the ones who can be ridden wikl be snapped up pretty quickly so it's a case of getting yourself registered I reckon and keep having a look on various sites. i have looked on redwings, WHW, RSPCA and Blue Cross sites in the past (just as a nosey really) and they have a real selection of horses and ponies and many can be ridden and are being ridden.

Is Redwings in South Norfolk too far.

I have a couple of friends who have recently had really nice horses/ponies from them - I think they have taken on a lot from Spindles farm and I am guessing that they put a lot of work into them before rehoming them because they seem to have nice manners!

I know of a lovely childs pony about 13.3/14hh free to a good home with tack, child has got to that age where they either carry on riding or prefer their friends company instead, pm me if you are interested.
