Hi,

Am thinking of taking my Friesian gelding that I bought in April and then decided to sell, and since have decided to keep (long story which some of you were kind enough to help with!), to an intro dressage competition. We have now almost solved the hacking issues and he will now go out almost on his own (mother walking about half a mile behind!)

He really enjoys being schooled and doesn't get silly in other horses' company, but I haven't done a dressage test in about 15 years!

I'm so rusty but am getting lessons.

My question is, what do they expect from a horse and rider at intro level, what is the etiquette regarding what we should be wearing, and what should I expect from our first outing?

Coffee and cake for getting through this!

You need to dress as you would for any competition ~ show jacket. Stock. Shirt. Light coloured jods. long boots.

Intro is usually done first so its less busy. You'll warm up with all the others then be called in on your time.

The judge is looking for regular balanced paces. Accurate movements and effective rider aids.

You don't need to be in a consistent outline to score well they judge appropriately.

Most of all go have fun. Me and my boy have done it and loved it and we are far from a picture of engagement :)

You will also be fine in a hacking jacket if you prefer and also now you should wear light coloured gloves ( I don't wear White but pale cream ones no one complained about them as I don't think White look right unless you are doing the posh stuff,)
just go and have fun.
