nutrients in alfalfa

The protein content of alfalfa is not too high but is of very good quality. Dr Theresa Holland and Professor Knottenbelt worked up a diet for my rescued mare who has significant liver damage (from ragwort poisoning) and she needed very low protein levels to protect the remaining working bit of her liver. However, all horses need some protein and alfalfa was advised as not too high in protein but of very good quality. Is this an exam question and if so what mark do I get?????
