Hello all, new poster here and seeking some advice around nutrition.

I have a 9 year old beagle and had her allergy tested by my vets earlier this year. The results came back showing that she was allergic to all meats (apart from turkey and venison), wheat, cereal, rices, barley and corn (as well as most grasses, weeds etc) but fortunately not dairy, eggs and cows milk.

Anyway, after heaps of researching online I found a dry food which did not contain any of these ingredients and started her off on this. She was also fairly overweight so my vets recommended adding raw veg in to her meals and as treats, so she was having carrots, broccoli and cucumber each day. I was also recommended to cook her up some turkey mince (low fat) and mix that in. She was then having 30g of dry kibble, around 150/200g of less than 2% fat turkey mince with a bit of veg mixed in.

Unfortunately after about 3 months of this daily diet, I could see no improvements whatsoever (though she has lost weight). Don't get me wrong, her allergies were not as bad as I know some dogs can be and her skin was only ever pink at its worst with small dry crumbly scabs under her arm pits on the worst occasion.

I went through many different shampoos with the aim of calming her skin but because the diet was somehow not working, I was just scratching the service (pardon the pun!!)

Anyway, getting to the crux of the point now (you'll be delighted to read), she picked up a bug about 2 weeks ago and was on scrambled egg for a few days and then I slowly introduced some turkey mince, then a few carrots a day. Her skin hasn't been as calm in years and very little itching at all... I am absolutely thrilled with the improvement. She also seems to have more energy and be much happier.

Which leads me to the whole point of this somewhat very long thread.... how nutritionally beneficial would it be for her to live off a boiled egg, turkey mince and a small amount of raw veg each day?

If it works, do it. But go easy on the eggs. You can buy multi vitamins for dogs.

I didn't know that thanks, I'll have a look in to them.

I have read real mixed messages about giving dogs eggs... some people say it's fine to give a small egg per day whereas others say only a couple of times a week. I guess it could be like humans where it may suit one, but not the next?

If she is allergic to cereals, check that the shampoo does not contain oats - some do.

Have you tried Ziwi peak air dried venison? I have used it in the past for a dog with allergies. It is a good quality single protein food but can work out expensive if you have a large dog.

I'd feed raw food. Its easy enough to find venison and turkey. Lots do complete meals with them, so just a case of defrost and feed.
