Hi, I'm in my third year of my BSc Equine Studies (Nutrition and Behaviour) Course and am in the middle of my dissertation which is an investigation into the feeding practices of UK horse owners. If you have a horse/ are responsible for any horses please fill out my questionnaire, it will take approximately 10-15 mins and is completely anonymous. The majority of the questions are just based on one horse so if you have multiple horses please pick one!! Click the link below to reach the survey and please complete all the questions. Anyone who would like to be informed of the final results please leave an email address or their username on here and I will contact them when the survey is complete.

Thank you so much
Rosie

Whew, I took forty minutes to fill this in, and am exhausted, but I would like to see the results, what sort of results are you expecting, we have all put in our own little ideas, but they may or may not be wrong, do you score us on our answers to the condition pictures,

Really don't like being expected to condition score based on a single low quality photo. Very hard to judge what's muscle, what's fat and what is conformation - while you can tell whether a horse needs to lose weight or gain it, actually coming to a score (e.g. 4 vs 5) is difficult from a single photo.

Was also annoyed by some of the questions lacking certain reasonable answers. e.g. what forage do you give in summer - there is no option for grass  some of us do keep horses out, you know ;) I also feel the "from whom would you seek advice" question should have had multiple answers or ranking.

Did you do a pilot questionnaire?

There is still time if you want to treat this like your pilot one and make the above suggested changes, and use another as your real one. The grass option being of particular importance to nutrition evaluation I feel ;)

Well, I've done it. I would agree with a few comments people have left you. There are places where I'd like to add a comment or tick more than one box.
Perhaps you could use this as a starting point and make a second, more indepth, version.

I'd be very interested to hear how things turn out.

Q:55 I had no photo so was difficult to score the weight of a blank!

Have just finished the survey. A lot of questions (for example "which magazines do you read on a regular basis?" and "which of these would you ask for nutrition advice from?" only gave you the option to give one answer. The first question asks you for more than 1 answer (by making magazine plural) and the second question I've exampled only let you give one answer too, where as most people ask a lot of different people and research for themselves on nutrition.

Condition scoring questions would have been much easier to answer if we were given breed/gender/discipline of the horse. The cob type could have been a stallion for all I knew, which would have still given him a cresty neck without saying he was over weight.

Generally a well put together survey but IMO long and very vague, with some questions repeating themselves

Done. Agree with some above boxes regarding multiple tick boxes. I have more than one horse too, so was hard to answer some questions, I had to use other box quite a bit.

I too would like to know the results :)
Thank you

Thank you for your input, the questionnaire is for only one horse, sorry if that wasn't made clear.

The magazine and advice question should have been worded slightly differently, I did only want one answer I'm looking for one main source of information to force people to rank them. A secondary study will be undertaken when this surveys data has been analysed. All comments will be taken into account Thank you very much for all of your inputs.

As for the grass as a forage option, if you tick other and then in the grazing hours box write 24 hours with no forage I will know that's what you meant.

Thank you x
