nutrition help!??

Hi just wondered if anyone new anything about why horses need lithium in their diets? I cannot find anything anywere on the internet about this! I also need to know can horses have a lithium defficeincy and what would happen if they recieved too much lithium in their diets? I am currently studying to be an equine massage therapist and part of my course is nutrition and i am totally stuck on this and cannot finish my assignment! any help is very much appreciated!! i would research how it works in the human diet first and then once you know the basis start to research it reference horses, thats how i did mine
