Nutritional advice - for puppy!

Can anyone suggest what the best kind of diet for a puppy to be on - I know this has been done a lot of times but what is the most natural, best way to feed and to keep them in the best condition. I have been feeding Purina Pro Plan Puppy and she looks fine on it - wolfs it down etc etc. But a lot of people have mentioned about the James WellBeloved food as it is all natural - what does everyone reckon? Should I mix some wet food with some of the dry food to add extra nurtients? When she was on the chicken and rice diet after her op she absolutely loved it and her motions seemed easier (if that makes sense!) I know there will be lots of opinions but I would like to hear your thoughts. Should I not change as she is used to the Pro plan??
 
My Pup is on James welbeloved in the mornings and naturediet in the evenings (half packet) He's got the adult version as he was bit off with puppy food. He's nearly 7 months old JRT and doing extremely well.

He get odd bones and rawhide chews daily.

Like you i want my puppy to eat naturally as possible...

I think Pro Purina is good as but haven't used it.
 
If you are feeding complete food (dry) & are happy with it & puppy is thriving, leave well alone.
All the protiens, nutrients etc are balanced (see side of bag) if fed at the right amount.
Ours get tripe & mixer. I feed tripe as it only contains meat & ground bones....& the biscuit is just there to add crunch.
I'm not a fan of the complete foods....but realise to many they are clean & conveniant.
 
If she is in good condition I wouldn't alter the food just for the sake of it. I feed my 3 with James Wellbeloved and it seems very popular but I always mix a little Butchers Tripe tinned food with some water to make a nice gravy to moisten it, partly because they love it and it must make it more palatable but also because the dry food absorbs moisture and swells as it passes through the digestive tract and so by mixing it with water I'm putting back some of this. I don't know if anyone else does this..........it could just be me being terribly fussy!

I mix a couple of sardines in oil with it now and then, plus they have bones to keep their teeth clean.
 
If it aint broke dont fix it - a lot of owners chop and change their dogs food to "give it a change" when in reality it will only serve to give the dogs an upset tummy- phew lol mixing tinned meat in with complete dry food will upset the careful balance of nutrients however mixing it with a dry mixer food is fine at the correct ratio although total dry food is much better for teeth IMO
 
If the tinned food is nutritionally balanced and the dried food is nutritionally balanced why would mixing the 2 make it not nutritionally balanced?
 
Thanks for all the advice - just wanted reassurance really that I am doing the right thing - I do soak the dry food to make it more easily digestible - and she does seem to look good on it! I wouldn't change it for the sake of changing it, just wasn't sure if it was the best way of doing things!!!
 
When I first had Finny I had him on Royal Canin Maxi Baby Dog dried food which was fab - however he got broed with dried and I would changed as I wanted him to have wet, however he was doing really well on that...

I changed him to Nature Diet - which I would still have him on now - if it weren't so expensive... he had to have 6 packets a day and at 69p was making me skint - again he did well on that too...

NOW he is on Winalot puppy food and a dried mixer and again he is doing well - still has 6 cans a day - but better on my pocket!!

I wikll eventually change him onto a BARF diet - just waiting for my new chest freezer to be moved from OH's dads to ours - then BARF we go!!

Mine is on a fresh food diet and is doing really well (18 weeks old now).

I also sometimes give him naturediet with some mixer. So you could try that - but is not cheap.

He came to us on James Wellbeloved and really didn't like it - he went off eating and wouldn't finish the food. So we changed and he always eats all his food now!

Not sure what the pro plan is like - have you checked the ingredients? Need to check what additives etc.

The only ones I have heard recommended are:
Dry food - Burns or JWB
Wet food: Naturediet (plus laughing dog mixer if you choose mixer with it)

I think dogs prefer a mixture of dry and wet - ours hated just dry food.

Is up to you really. But I can point you in the direction of where I got my puppy's diet from if you interested? PM if you are.
