can anyone tell me if vitamin e can help a very unpredictable nutter of a throughbred to calm him down doing some very strange and dangerous stunts with me latley. have had his back checked and its okay. He needs help!!!!!!!!!!!!

he is fed on baileys meadow sweet with a little sugar beet, he is out 24/7 but can go in his stable when he wants and they have ad lib hay, he has only been fed the last month as our grass is good, but his behaviour started back in may with him in july flipping over with me getting back up throwing himself down again nutter, after getting the checks done on him apart from a brain scan? i have started to put his saddle back on when i do this he can roll his eyes and try to go down or up (he has no idea what he is doing) i can then get on him and go and have a very good ride
 
are you sure he is not cold backed or has a trapped nerve it all seems to relate to the saddle - maybe a second opinion. Has he been ok before this happened and how long have you had him
 
Had a horse on yard, was an angel when purchased but gradually over 4 months into ownership he started to get grumpy to finally bronco bucking as soon as you got on! No probs could be found until he finally had a back x-ray and it showed kissing spines.
The extra work we were asking of him was too much and brought the prob to llight. So, kissing spines a possibility?
 
i have not had a second opinion the guy i use as a physio is very good and next week if this is still happening then i am going to be referred on to a vet that he works with, i am trying to give the horse a chance because i wandered if this was physological as for the cold back i am quite confident that it is not this . I have had him for 7 years he did fracture his skull as a yearling, but over the years he has conmpeted in all events and been succseful but he is noted for not for the faint hearted
 
It should really have been the other way round. Full investigations by the vet, then referred to a physio if needs be.
I know someone who wasted £1500 on a physio. One visit, and subsequent referral for scans, from a vet later the horse was diagnosed with kissing spines.
Also a horse I used to ride, who was a handful at the best of times, started to do exactly the same (was called Townsender for those of you that read the racing post, the photos were in there). He had a full brain scan and was shot an hour afterwards due to the findings.
 
not to hijack the post, but you rode townsender? I was led o believe he was retired.....
was that why he did the whole flipping over?
 
Yeah would definitately get some scans done to see if there's damage that physio would not see.
In the meantime, get rid of the sugar beet - far too sugary for a nutter horse. Stick to a pasture mix or grass mix for maintenance whilst getting him checked out.
 
Sounds like my daughter's mare that had all sorts of neurological problems and had to be pts. The first vet that saw her said she was just bad mannered!!After she nearly killed people she finally went to Lambourn to be scanned.
 
I used to be head girl at Scudamores, used to ride him every day. He was some animal, great jumper of a fence. He was always a funny ride (fly leap/bolt every day) but had never thought of going up.
Id left by the time he started the flipping over but that is what I heard about him - he was going to be shot anyway but they needed the scan for the insurance. Id be 99% confident its the truth.
 
To be honest their is no point in trying to guess what is going on as this could be the symptoms for a hell of a lot of things. If the physio couldn't find anything and it is out of character behaviour you definately need to get a lot of further investigation done. Generally horses don't suddenly change a pattern of behaviour for no reason. Yes it could be something to do with the brain or indeed the spine, but similarly it could also be teeth, legs, internal tumours etc. My point is don't worry and don't try and guess what it is. Get the further investigation done so you know exacty where you stand. Good luck with it all. i hope it all works out for the better for you!
