Nutty Throughbreds!!!

It always makes me laugh the bad reputation that some breeds of horse get!

We've never had a nutty thoroughbred. In fact, the sky could fall down around our current TB and she wouldn't batter an eyelid.

Plus, she's a chestnut mare

I used to own a X Racehorse. She was gorgeous. Dapple Grey all over with highlighted tail - stunning. But she had an evil temperament, couldn't be tied up, fairly spooky on hacks but great in traffic, lorries, tractors etc. Sometimes nappy. Needed schooling and bringing on - but we hadn't the facilites. Had to be doped up a bit to be shod - my first horse of my own. But I loved her, even though the list of downfalls to her was so long. However, the only reason she was so bad, was because she had been thumped about when she was raced and so thought she had to protect herself. We had 107 calls about her and I don't blame them her advert pic was great. Sold End of September, just after I got my 3y/o coloured cob with a heart of gold and a twinkle in her eye =']. Big change from my TB to my little baby cob. xxxxx

I have two ex-racers. One did the whole shibang, the other just the training...both deemed to slow for the game and I wouldn't part with them...... the eldest does a bit of everything, and the other is just figuring out where her feet are. No more difficult to handle than any other horse.... the only diff i would say is that there is a turbo fitted as standard. As for nutty.... I occasionally have to check for pulse.

Completely agree with you there boss!! Over last summer i helped my best friend who retrains ex racers (or used to, now she works in racehorse rehabilitation) and the one thing i noticed was when we took one to the sales at malvern, and people would look at him and say how gorgeous and well behaved he was...then looked at his card and said "oh hes an ex racer" and walked off.... when he was the most smashing little horse!! I really hate that stereotype of an ex racer, i think they're smashing!

God how annoying for your friend. I think I remember who it was. Still... on the plus side, it means there are more lovely, well-behaved horses for the more discerning buyer

I think ex-racers have so much going for them; they invariably load without a fuss, are good in traffic, have been clipped and taken out with other horses...
