Hi all, my friend has a 4 yr old welsh sec d who keeps jumping out of his stable. She's at her wits end as YO won't allow ponio to stay out 24/7.

Before she throws the towel in and moves to grass livery, anyone got any advice? We have 2 type stables, barn type and old stable block. Have tried him in both with no joy.

Any tips much appreciated :)

what about putting a grill on the door, treats in the stable?
has he got company when in or are there horses coming and going all the time and he thinks he's missing out on something?

my pony would jump out the stable if i took his friend away, it caused so many problems as it meant i couldn't work the one without him jumping out unless someone was there to sit outside the stable.
he's now learnt that it's ok to stay in the stable while i ride his friend, it took a while and i had someone sit with him in the stable and slowly built up the time his friend was away from him.

Thank u for your reply, yes there's always company. They only come in at night and pretty much go out together. The stable he is in at the mo is like a pen with 3 planks of word for a door so a guard won't work.

He has a treat ball but is a bit of a fatty so dosent have much in terms of treats. Thanks again!

I have a TB/Welsh d and she does exactly the same, it is impossible to keep her stabled. She jumps the 5 bar gate into the field from a standstill and today she has jumped a high bank, knocked the post and rail fencing down and broken into next doors farm land. She is only 14.2hh but jumps like she is 17.2hh!!
