Went to Nutwell for my 5yos next outing, had never been there before and it was really nice, and NOT raining!!
He warmed up beautifully for the dressage, nice and relaxed, and then the cows arrived....in the next field, and that was it, he forgot how to canter and got 3's

trot was tense for mostly 6's and ended on a really dissapointing 40

his worst mark by far
anyhow, Showjumping was much better, just one down over a complicated course, where every fence bar two had fillers and water trays
and then clear XC and he felt so relaxed and confident, like a proper horse

it was such a nice round, and for the first time ever i had time to enjoy it

So big pats all round

For those with south west knowledge, do you think stockland lovell in two weeks would be a good final outing??

Stockland Lovell should be good. Sounds like his jumping is really coming on. You know he can do the dressage although it is frustrating when something like that happens.

We're doing Stockland Lovell and it will be a super event. Probably be oversubscribed though so worth contacting them asap.

i was really pleased with his jumping esp the showjumping, he didnt hesitate at anything and he has come on so much

siennamum- just rang them, and they still have spaces

going to speak to my instructor and then enter, so hopefully see you there

Stockland Lovell is a lovely event, so go for it

thank you loulou, and thank you for your advice the other day, on the XC there was some helsinki rails which i have never jumped before, so i made a plan like you said and rode positively, and it was all ok

think SL is now a definite, mum is moaning about how far it is to travel, but i really want to go

Well done you. SL will be great, as long as the ground is ok. The drive will be fine, is it A30 then M5 for you?

A38 then M5, reckon it will be around 2-21/2 hours, which isnt too bad
is their ground normally too hard?soft? with this weather who knows!!...
o and are there cows?!!!!

Cows??? It is on a farm

I can't remember ever seeing any on a competition day, you might if you went there for training!

The ground can be rock hard in places, they do aerovate and have a track around part of the course. Also it can be very slippery around the old water if there has been a lot of rain but at Intro level you wn't be jumping into water so it'll be fine. It's bette for it to be wet there I think?!

yes i think i would rather it be wet than rock hard, but maybe at lower heights ground is less influential so hopefully itl be ok

cant be worse than the hard ground at winkeligh! so ill just be carefull if it is
i think i may have to set up a cow post, venues with and without...

I'm not competing as I no longer have a horse...

My son is riding - he's in the 2ft 6", on the Saturday, on a horse called (unsuprisingly) Sienna...

Pretty good jumping then and as for the cows

- well done. There are lots of cows at SL but they were all shut away when we were at the July event. Maybe you could walk him down through the barns so he gets desensitized?

think im just going to have to go for it, and see what happens with regards to the cows

i cant avoid them for ever, although he would like to

he gets tense even when he sees a cow pat

im going to go in search of some tomorrow on my hack i think

Mate if your after cows come over to my side..I went through a herd of them last week...its great fun especially when they all start bloody RUNNING!
