...according to my OH, he is doing his this summer, then going to do his HGV for his job....

Apparently you cannot drive anything bigger than a van otherwise....!

Anyone else heard of this? Or has he got it wrapped round his neck?

Maybe it's just an employer rule, health and safety or something?
My hubby used to drive all over the country in his job, after 7 years they brought in a ruling that company car drivers had to do a 'defensive driver's course', or, use their own cars and claim mileage!

If you past your test after 1 st jan 1997 you can drive up to 3.5 ton. You will need to take another test to drive anything from 3.6-7.5 ton and a hgv for anything over 7.5. Applies to towing too

It's driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) - if you have been qualified over 3 years you need to complete 35 hours training every 5 years (first deadline is 2012). Those drivers doing their licences at the moment are completing NVQs (I believe) instead of the CPC.

Ah, so it's just for those who drive for a living then?

Can't see it being enforced for hobby drivers....would be a nightmare!
