I am currently studying for my NVQ Level 2 in Horse Care. I have a few questions about it, I have asked different people but people seem to have different opinions and views on it. If any assessors/NVQ Students have any of the answers to the following then please reply.

1. Does the theory part of each section have to be typed or handwritten? Or does it not matter?
2. How many job sheets do I have to have for each section?
3. How many witness statements do I have to have for each section?
4. Do I have to have to take loads of photos?

Any advice much appreciated.

I'm an NVQ assessor and verifier, but not for Horse Care qualifications. However, the principles should be the same so I'll try and answer your questions. You should discuss with your assessor as well though - part of their role is to support you. They should also give you an assessment plan after each meeting that details exactly what you have to provide for next time.

1. It shouldn't matter if something is typed or handwritten.
2, 3 & 4 - you need to show that you meet the NVQ standards, so the amount of evidence you provide should be dictated by that. For most of the qualifications I work with we look for 3 examples of competent performance (but at least 1, usually 2 of these would be a direct observation by the assessor) for each criteria and 1 example of knowledge evidence. So you need to include enough job sheets and witness statements to cover each of the performance criteria the required number of times. Photos are good to add to evidence from the job sheets and witness statements, but random photos have little value as evidence.

As I say. I don't assess for horse care, so do clarify with your assessor exactly what they want from you.

Good luck!

ETA - I hope that makes sense. I'm not sure I explained it very well. But if you want me to clarify anything I've said PM me.

2/3/4 they like as much evidence as possible so i put a minimum of 3 pieces of evidence per section. so get camera happy
