BH is a lazy toad and I have been umming and ahhing about putting my spurs on as a reminder that he does need to listen. But... I have become so fluffy I now feel this would be like admitting defeat.

Someone give me a slap please. I have clearly lost my mind :o

You are obviously expecting far more than he feels comfortable to give.
Leave the spurs at home, learn to respect your horse and modify your demands to match his. :p

*SLAP* stop hugging that tree- get ya spurs on and teach lazy to listen to your leg!!

thanks lex. How the heck are you? Seems like I haven't 'spoken' to you for ages! Where've you been.

Sorry :( Silly me expecting him to actually not use my inside leg as some kind of prop when cornering. He must be lame/sick/depressed. I will call my animal communicator post haste :D

Getting out of a 6 year relationship mainly!!! All good though, apart from having to leave dexie fat pants with the Ex..... oh and moving in with ones mother at 34- not ideal!!

Dont be so selfish with said Hoss either- of course you are there to carry his front end, be a cornering post!

Um, **whispers** you could give him a tap with a whip

I do that too. Shh, don't tell anyone or I'll really be in trouble. :D I am using the logic that my legs are actually better than my hands and it's easier for me to use my spurs effectively than my schooling whip. Isn't that awful?! Bad hands :(

You have, of course, checked his saddle fits correctly, teeth have been seen to and back has been physio'd then as long as you have stable legs and the spurs arnt massive then you shouldn't hurt your hossie. I can only ride mine in spurs ( trust me, I don't like it and have tried to 'school' it out of her but she was ridden I'n spurs from day 1) and yes, if she doesn't listen to my leg she gets a jab I'n the sides, but then again I'm mean :)

One of my first ponies was an ex RS pony, and when I say PC kicks, these kicks were literally the splits! haha, at the time I was 9 so mum didn't want me to wear spurs (for obvious reasons) but we had a svhooling whip that didn't work, so we got the spurs with the rolly bits (not the western style jabby rolly bits haha (technical terms :p)) at the end so I couldn't hurt him (at this time I was 10) worked a treat, and I actually got him to canter after the third kick, in the corner I wanted :D haha rather than an entire lap of the school doing PC kicks which probably hurt him more than spurs :)

So get your spurs on and stop yourself from being worn out constantly, leggy horses are hard work! haha :)

There's a picture of me coming up to a jump about 1' high on this spotty pony, with my legs about 3' away from his sides trying to get him to canter over this jump haha. There's also another picture of me nearly falling off into the water at JumpX because he decided that on that day he was a 5 yr old and stopped then cat lept over this jump, jumping about 3' higher than he needed to haha

The spotty pony thinking he's a 5 yr old :) hehe

I stayed on :D

if you wrap your spurs in sheepskin so that they don't hurt the poor horsie then i'm sure it would be fine as long as you give him a big cuddle afterwards and tell him that he is mummys special boy:D:D

O, and just to let you all know I won't be wearing spurs tonight to ride because I'll be doing something even worse

I will be thoroughly ACPing the brute and clipping him. Which he hates. And I won't be asking his permission to do it either!!

so he's had back, teeth and saddle checked and now you're going for the back sack and crack treatment? i think you've covered all options:D:D:eek:

Does anyone have the number for the RSPCA (such a useful organisation :p) in Jesstickles area?

Have you tried using the schooling whip on your own boot for the noise effect? Can be helpful in a horse that has become dead to nagging legs.

Also are you doing the whole 'sitting deep' thing when asking for canter? Cos all this does is depress his back, prevent his spine being able to come up and round to canter and lets you shovel with your seatbones.....:D

This is actually exactly the tactic I apply. But the knobber knows when my stick is there and when it isn't  He's not as stupid as I think apparently!

Just snorted tea everywhere lol. Im not meaning to sound fluffy bunnyish but as much as anything its you and your energy and body language usually with transitions. Try walk-canter a lot of horses find this easier as they can bounce up into it rather than running on flatter and flatter :)
