my darling new horse not so darling! got on him on tuesday (got him on monday)yay) so rode him early he was sooooooo tense and sweated up alotttttttttttt! so decided to call it a day! But then i waited until late afternoon and thought id try again in an enclosed space! but AS soon as i got on he turned and galloped away and stopped turned and threw me off!

and trotted calmly off into his feild which btw he jumped out of the day before! today i just lunged him so he got exersise! So any advice on how to get over my new fear of riding my new wonder horse!?

Hattie was a total loon when she first came!!
She was always lunged for 10 mins before a got on and i had to learn to ride her totally different to what I was used to.
Try and lunged for a few mins before you ride and see how you get on. And dont forget its a new environment so he will have to get used to all the surroundings and things. Dont worry!

He may want more settling in and you need to be brimming with confidence and just get on with it - take it easy and don't push yourself too much.

Whereabouts are you in Oxon?
 
he's in eynsham, just 20mins (or so)(give or take traffic) from oxford city centre! theres really good hacking-not that im using it! but no school

oh dont worry they need time to settle in...we always give ours at least three days of no riding to settle in and maybe more depending on the horse.
 
The day afetr I got my new mare I rode her out (no school). OMG I nearly c*****d myself. The front end went up, the back went up, she span around in the road. Not helped by the fact that I started my ride with two companions, who had to turn round and go home because one had done their flash up so loosely it slipped off their horse's nose. Of course I couldn't turn straight round and go home setting a precedent and all that so I kept going. Anyhow next day and with the aid of some rescue remedy it got better and there has been no turning back. Thinking back did he throw you or did you lose balance through nerves gripping up, or were you leaning forward and went out the side door? Not criticising your riding on any scale but I always find that if I can decide the problem was down to me then I don't get nervous of the horse just more aware of how I am sitting/riding and more determined not to let it happen again. Then the horse doesn't become the scary thing. Might sound a bit odd but it works for me.
