Mum has just phoned to say she has got the results of her scan yesterday, and unfortunately she needs and operation on her back asap. Problem is she has 5 resue dogs, 3 oldies and 2 3/4 year olds. I already have 2 dogs, work full time and also have a horse. How the hell am I going to manage 7 dogs? . Mums house is on the way to my work. Do I leave them there and try to walk them on way to and from work, or do I bring them to my house (they would have to stay in a big barn attached to the house) to make walking and spending time with them a bit easier? Mum doesn't know alot about the op yet as she needs to discuss it with the consultant first, so we are unsure at the min how long she will be out of action for. HELP!!

I'd bring them home for however long to be honest. Saves on the travelling back and forth etc, thereby making it easier to fit in their walks and attention. I'd be a bit worried also about leaving dogs alone in a house with somebody just popping in a couple of times a day for walks and feeds.

Don't much envy you though! :p And I hope all goes well for your mum with regards the back op, fingers crossed for you both :)

Thank you for your replies. We actually have a proffesional dog walker in our village. Not sure if they charge per dog or per hour? Will have to look into it. We should know a bit more about the op on Monday, we are hoping that mum will be able to come home to recover so at least the dogs will have company even if mum can't walk them!!!

I agree with other posters, I would bring them home. I never like the idea of dogs being left on their own with someone just popping in, though I now plenty do it without a problem. If you are short of time sometimes at least you can spend a bit of time playing with them, even if they don't get a long walk. Hope your mum is soon on the mend.

It is possible - allbeit the days are long!. I have 10 dogs, a Horse and I work full time. I am doing them all myself at the moment. I guess exercise for me is a bit easier as they are huskies so I drive to the woods, hook them all up and go!! I do have my older girl to walk normally as well. Dog walking belts are good for walking multiples! You could walk the 3 oldies at once with one - if they aren't pullers. Are any of them happy chasing a ball etc? That would be a quick way to exercise. Definately have them at home - would be easier I would think.
Just do what you can. Don't feel guilty if it's not as much as you'd like. They'll cope!

Do you have a reasonably large garden or yard???

why not set up a bit of an agility course for the young ones, not so far to go and will also keep there brains occupied.

Maybe a bit of tracking hide nice bits of food an let them go out and find it.

I find its great to walk dogs, for exercise but tiring them out mentally as well is good.

Hope all goes well.
