would you hog this??

according to one judge, i would be better off hogging and trimming and entering in show cob classes, as he is too heavy and old fashioned to be a welsh cob!!! LOL! and no way will i hog him!!

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! The judge needs shooting, what wrong with a heavier more traditional type Welshy anyway. Showing is so subjective, the next judge will probably love him.

Watch out the word on hogging is around!

I responce to the OP's question, I think the judge was blind/on drugs/crap *delete as appropriate*. That's a proper Welsh Cob if ever there was one and to hog him would be criminal!

Looks a lovely cob but I'd be quite worried about the crest on him. Is his crest always like that?

Or has he had too much spring grass?

I'd be worried about laminitus.

Ditto, and IMO hogging it would just emphasise it

He's fabulous!

I know you wouldn't but really really don't hog him.

And as for the crest, he's welsh, he was cut late - what more needs to be said!

QR and no I wouldn't hog him if he was my horse. We tried it on Mcfly last year but only because I had made a balls up of his mane. Didn't use clippers as I didn't have any so it was a scissors jobby, that said it did look nice and straight but was not as short as being clipped. It has now grown out and as his mane keeps growing and growing he looks even more lovely. He is a gypsy vanner though and no I would not hog him again.
Personally I am not a great fan of hogging but on some horses it does really suit them and sometimes it is very hard to tell until you actually do it. We have a lovely strong looking cob on the yard which is black and hogged and he looks very fetching. The hogged mane really suits him. However in reply to the OP's post I am not convinced a hogging would suit this horse. If it was me I would leave well alone.

A hogged Welsh Cob is not a RIdden Cob-
Action and way of going are different too
Let his tail grow more native style and try to trim the weight, not the hair,
Was is a M&M panel judge or a local show judge?
Suspect the latter.

i will keep the tail as it is i'm afraid, he would look silly with a heavy full tail, it is switched like that to show off the hocks and is correct for welsh classes.
the judge was a panel judge *cough*

I totally agree. Not sure what to say about above post where hogged welshie won hoys though!
