Well she's been here nearly a week, and has settled quite well, she seems to pace about in the afternoons/evenings, but is chilled in the mornings. She is such a lovely natured girl, I keep telling myself not to get too attached as she's not a long term dog, but its so wonderful to have a Gordon in the house again. Like the Clumber she is faultless around the house and out walking, even old dog is tolerating her better. Really been fortunate that she's not a problem dog, except that her head and front end want to do more than the back end is capable of!
 
I know what you mean on all counts! The pacing for my senior boy is looking for food, a biscuit settles him. The back end is willing but unable, very much hindered by being on three legs currently.

Glad to hear she's settling in. :)
 
Lovely to hear such a positive update. I think you were probably meant for each other and I hope you have many happy years together.
 
Just been for a walk in the local country park, let her off lead, she's immediately in the stream so I know she likes water ! A 20 min walk
and she now wants to play with her ball.

Met a chap with two dogs, one had collapsed, blind and deaf and old and fat, helped him get her to the car. The other was hugely fat and
I thought the same age, No, 5 years old Labrador. Couldn't believe it, why do people let their dogs get so obese, it could hardly move either.

Pleased it all going so well. Sadly obese lab won't be active like this when old, I've got so used to seeing fat labs that when I see one that is slim and active I think it's a different breed.
 
So pleased you are enjoying your Gordon, Snuffles.

After the heartbreak of taking on obese Goldie Finley, who lost weight with me but was too damaged to survive. I think over feeding is as cruel as starvation.

We get that with ours. They don't need to be fat, such a shame for them.

Glad Gordie girl has settled in well and you are loving her.

It kills me that there are so many obese labs. There are a couple round here that are slim and athletic, I just want to cuddle them for being so gorgeous!

I think it's easy to over feed under the guise of "loving" the dog, but I'm near paranoid about my lot. Keeping them lean means better long term prospects.
 
I think Ive cracked the incessant night wandering ! (fingers tightly crossed) There is an informal 2 pm dog walk where up to 11 dogs and owners meet, dogs play and owners sit and chat and drink sloe gin ! (why have I never discovered this before ) After a session interacting with the other dogs and about 30 mins walk, she crashed out for the rest of the evening and most of the night ! She loves being with all the other dogs, mine wont interact with her
 
That's interesting about stopping the wandering. So basically she wasn't tired enough? And blow me, are you near me? I NEED a dog walking group that ends with sloe gin, I just found a huge bush!

I'm crating mine for the first time in ages tonight to prep him for 4 days away. He's getting up quite early and wandering, can't be exercised much due to the paw bothering him. I don't want him wandering at the holiday house and waking everyone up early!

I have wondered this and then one day me and hubby had our guilty pleasuer of the burger bar on the hill where we sit and eat a greasy burger while looking down on the city of Portsmouth...there is a lovely green space where people come and walk their dogs etc and this hugely and I mean grossly fat labrador came waddling along followed by it's also very fat owners, the man sat on a bench in front of our car and his wife waddled off to the ice cream van and bought a huge mr whippy which they fed in it's entirety to the dog.....we were both quite speechless, poor bloody dog....

Then the other day I was out with Billy a lean and fit WCS when I met a couple with a really, really fat English cocker....after enquiring as to what crossbreed Billy was they said about how "thin" he was!!! Oh dear...I just went on my way after ignoring their "advice"
 
CT, I hope its the answer ! Yesterday we did a biggish walk but no play and she was more active in the evening again, but did sleep well overnight. The night wandering I thought might be a sign of dementia, could be co incidence, as I suppose like people some days they are better than others, Will see how she goes this week when the "club" is about again. As well as the gin, we have blackberry and apple pie
from blackberry bushes in the park! Ive just fallen in with the right people :D

They gave you advice?! On how to shorten your dog's life by making it fat? I'd have had such words if someone told me my fit lads were too lean!

Lucky mare! Admittedly, I avoid other owners because of Zak, but he's much better recently and was doing his 'I'm a good dog' impression with enthusiastic toddlers this morning and a very bouncy huge Akita puppy.
