I am taking on a 20 yr old ex eventer on loan shortly to take hunting and obviously want to insure him. His lovely owner has said he isn't actually worth anything (bar his weight in gold!!) but we do want to insure him for vets fees.

How little a figure can you insure them for? £500 or even less? Any thoughts?

Personally - Seriously, I would try and get a kitty fund together and save your money! I think the premiums would be huge!
Mostly getting insurance for golden oldies is hard enought - but then getting 'hunting' insurance is another complication!.
H&H do have a insurance comparer thing - try that.
I do know of a pony that was insured for a value of £250 not a million years ago, but that was for general hacking family pet kind of thing - Colic and ligament issues instantly was not covered - regardless of history.

Unless he is already insured with a company you will likely only be able to insure him on a veteran plan which covers external injuries only and therefore quite probably not worth the premiums. I have managed to continue my 20 yo with full cover (and whatever activity level you require) but only because he was insured with petplan before his 18th birthday (or about that!)
