So the 1st event of the season is the one were we all put into practice what wehave learnt over the winter, right? Please somebody tell me horse this!
First of all we stopped at Derby services for a loo break, walks back to the car to see water pouring (yep pouring) from the expansion tank! Opened the bonnet had a look, cant see anything because of all these fancy covers they put on, to hide the engine. Managed to remove 3 covers with aid of a hoofpick! Finds broken pipe, calls the AA, man says within the hour, good job we allowed plenty of time then. Has a coffee and plaits up while waiting. AA man fixes pipe and on we go!
Gets to Oasby 1 hour before dressage,so in good time works in absolutely fab, goes into arena does fab centre line and then trips round top corner, went downhill from there really. Ended up on 44.7

.
Speed walks xc, then tacks up for sj, into collecting ring, complete with 25 other horses, none of whom had any manners, steering or spacial awareness!

This upset Sov a bit so we did a few and then just walked round to wait our turn. Goes in the ring pops into canter round to the 1st fence and catleaps over the top of the wings! next a tiny upright which I trotted to popped that then a bigger upright popped that, then major paddy hissy fit by the commentary box on the way to the double, turned away once and then rattled him through, then another upright, turning to the 6th fence (away from warm up) another hissy fit and we got the bell.

So today we are going sj, and tomorrow night we are going sj, and wednesday we are going sj and friday we are going sj and then on Saturday we might get round at Kelsall!
And before anyone screeches about him being overjumped he is very very fit, and I dont keep jumping once they get the idea, one week of hard work is not going top kill him!

Oh no!

Sounds like a nightmare day - luck was obviously against you!

The SJ ring at Oasby was quite spooky - lots of stuff around the edges - you will probably be fine next time.

Where are you going next?

oh no sorry to hear that, we've all been there.
I agree with the jumping him this week, get in as much practise as you can. Good luck for Kelsall !!

Oh what a bummer, probably find he never does it again! At least youve got Kelsall to aim for and the rest of the season too, nothing worse than probs right at the end of the year when you have no events left.
