Do you think I'll need to use my precious ballot stickers? It says only one PN ballotted last year. I've an Intro and a Novice which means I'll need to go Saturday. I guess the Novice should be OK but I'm not too sure about the Intro horse.

Don't know what to do now as I'd like to save my stickers for later in the month but don't want to risk not getting a run at Oasby. Arrrgghh the indecision of it all....

If I were you I'd use the sticker if you really want to go, you'll be so annoyed with yourself if you get balloted!! Also, if the end of March turns into a wash out or the ground is baked

you'll be equally annoyed that you didn't run at Oasby!!
Hope the ramblings make sense!!!

I'm fortunate in that we sponsor Oasby and other events organised by the Bede group. That way we get entries to any of their events (still have to pay!)

Is their any way you could offer to help on one of the other days, events usually don't ballot those who help either physically or financially.

I appreciate the sentiment of volunteering and also totally appreciate that events could not run without an army of volunteers but there is just no way I could manage. My husband gets quite upset about my prolonged eventing absences on a weekend as it is and would definitely have problems with me being away both days, plus it is a 3 hour drive away, plus I'm vetting at a local point-to-point (for free I might add) on the Sunday anyway.

I'm not being ungrateful but I work extremely long hours, manage (just) to keep and event two horses entirely on my own and can't see that I can possibly fit any more in on my (rare) weekends off.

I completely understand your problem, hence why we do the financial sponsorship option (packages are not THAT expensive) I have 2 children, 1 of which doesn't ride and an OH who works away a lot.

Apparently BE entries would be double if it wasn't for sponsorship and volunteers.

So I guess that means we all have to help in whatever way we can. Perhaps you could use your skills in some way related to your job.

Bede run loads of events so they are a good group to help out. Also if you help at any event it is worth mentioning on your entry form that you do so.

I give my 'physical' help to our PC where daughter is still a keen member, this works as son has many friends amongst non riding PC brothers.

There is more than one way to skin a cat so to speak, where else do you want to run in March. In my experience entries 'hot up' as the weather improves.

I guess we are lucky as once the JRN's kick off they get priority for their sections anyway.

I do feel a nagging guilt that I don't do more! I will run at Belton, Lincolnshire and Kelsall Hill if all is well, however the first two are at Nov and there should be much less of a problem there - all the Int horses will be starting at ON and most of the 'new' Novice horses from the end of last season will probably start with an OPN. Technically normal Nov sections shouldn't be too busy in March!!

However I have bitten the bullet and entered both horses with a sticker!

At the risk of sounding really inflexible day before dressage is a no-no: it's a three hour drive so would need to stay overnight which would involve paying for stabling for 2 horses, B&B for me (unless I decide to sleep in the trailer - but it is only March...) AND upsetting the husband again as I would be away for 2 days!

So ballot stickers it is!

I'm not ungrateful, really! It just takes some ingenuity to shoehorn in everything you want to do and keep everyone happy.
