Oats or Barley

I have been in touch with Top Spec for some feed advice for my rising 4 year old WB mare. She is out at grass and will be till June / July time. She is already on balancer and Alfa A oil as recommended previously. They have suggested adding either oats or micronised barley for extra weight gain and condition - which is best?

As a kid I was always told to feed barley for weight gain.

i would say barley they worked for my TBXID mare...then stopped working but she is 19 so its probably to do with age
wouldnt dare try oats they wud make tabby crazy

i would say oats.

i have sus on oats and he has put on some weight really quickly on them and they have not sent him scatty at all.

If anythng else i find oats are brain food for him and all the ponies that i used to have on them

Oats. Some of them have a funny reaction to Barley and come out in protein bumps
