I have a 15.1 dales X Cob, he is being fed 3/4 of a large scoop of Dengi Hi Fi, one cup of Baileys Low Cal and a sprinkle of Garlick twice a day, he has between one and two nets of haylege a night depending on what time I bring him in. He is a good doer with a laid back attitude so I do not want to feed him anything that is going to put weight on him. He is turned out on good grazing everyday.

I have increased his workload and I just want him to have a bit more energy as he seems to be lacking it at the moment. I have been advised by a couple of different people, one has said add some oats to his feed the other has said Propell. I want to keep him on Low Cal as I am impressed on how he looks. Has anyone had any experience of feeding these extras alongside Low Cal and if so what were the results.

I fed naked oats to my miniature stallion as he was lacking in some energy but didnt want him to put weight on. Unfortunatly he put weight on and they made no difference whatsoever to his energy. Ive cut them out and just started him on propell plus. He's only been on it a few days so not really had time to see any difference.

Oats affect horses differently but if you not wanting extra weight i would try the propell.

Thank you for your reply, I have been looking at previous threads on here and I think I will try propell first, would be interested to find out if it works for your stallion.

I have my good doer 14.3 cob on 1 cup baileys and half scoop hi fi while the grass is still ok, and red cell (similar to propell) I found oats just didnt work, I would have had to feed a load to him and then he would have put weight on. You may find it takes a couple of weeks to see any difference though. Good Luck!
