Berlusconi is such a character - I actually really like him; he may not be politically correct and for sure he sails a bit close to the wind, but his antics do make me smile I'm afraid.
He reminds me a bit of Prince Philip, Boris Johnston and their ilk, no malice intended just perhaps a bit ' clumsy' for these days of PC ( which incidentally I hate )

totally agree, the comment did make me chuckle
The language is not an issue as he was speaking in Italian (with an interpreter translating into English).
It's one of those days when I am so ashamed of being Italian. No, actually, this goes beyond shame. It was such a vulgar and racist comment. He didn't even apologise - when journalists tried to hint that maybe it was a slightly racist comment he replied (and I quote) "if you don't have a sense of humour, then f*** ***"!!)
Humour? I think it's actually racism at its worst, because it is half-unconscious, subtle, and insinuating -- and worst of all, Berlusconi seriously thought it was hilarious.
A while ago he said something similar regarding the Finnish (female) Prime Minister who had to decide whether Italy was going to house some important food-related European Institution; he told the press that he had succeeded in persuading her "thanks to [his] playboy skills"
Again, no apologies - he thought it was hilarious (pity she got so mad she demanded an explanation from the Italian ambassador in Finland). Again, misogyny at its worst, because it is half-unconscious and subtle at the same time.
Anyway, the Italian papers (sorry, that should read 'his papers') are celebrating the supposed 'similarities' between Obama and Berlusconi
Yes, of course - the son of a Kenyan man who got to the White House at 47 years of age and has promised to change the world. And the richest millionaire in Italy, who at the tender age of 72 is still Prime Minister, with the help of, after all, only 90% of the media (over which he has complete control). Really can't tell the difference
And just to end the rant, note to self when I daydream about having a Prime Minister like Obama in my country: in Italy, Obama would not even have the right to vote (children of immigrants, who were born and grew up in this country and now work, live and are fully integrated in Italy...do not have Italian citizenship).
