well its been a good few months since my last up date
for those of you whom dont know us-

i bought obee of a 5'0 nothing lady whom had had him since an 18 month old and before that he was just at the stud, he is now 17.1hh and only three so i think the lady was somewhat scared of him and used feed buckets to bribe him.I dont blame her for what happened, but it is just a prime example of what happens when simple 'handling' is not used.

i took him home and he was like a wild thing- reared, ran and boxed at me as he didnt want to come away from his herd. putting a rug on him, made him run a mile and everything small looked 'huge' in his eyes!!

i began the ground work after a month or so lunging, long lining etc etc, next was the saddle i put it on him.. two mintues later, he was jumping off all fours like an animal posessed! (so got the chiro out, whom sorted him out) carried this on for another month or thereabouts. Then time for putting foot in stirrup... it all went pear shaped from here.

i stood on the mountain block- my foot touched his sides and he bolted, bronching like mad, i was at a loss with what i had done ( i had broken horses in before and never had my method failed before!) But JG educated me..' not one method works for everyhorse and that horse has never seen anyone bigger than himself!!'

i sent him to JG for six weeks and they worked wonders- fed him up, backed him, walk, trot, canter and 'whoa' on command, and even had him hacking out.

the difference after three weeks was amazing- just in obee himself. he was more sure of himself, less defensive all the time and more self fulfilled.

Obee and i has now moved stables, some where with quieter hacking and two schools! and a riding school next door-The weather had put a hold on riding for a good six weeks, but this has just let me bond with him more!!

He is no where near a finished horse- still doing walk and trot, but im so much more confident in getting on him.and he is really starting to listen to your leg movements and weight shift :)
we even went and had a lesson next door and he is showing signs of promise- watch video link below

all i can say is thankyou,Janet George olivier and john!!
i really didnt think it was possible!

xxxxx

Lovely horse :) looks like he's going beautifully!

He reminds me a lot of my new boy, well his head and face markings anyway! Mines not quite 17.2 ;)

Whos his sire?

Good luck with him, looks like a real sweetie :)

Great to hear how well things are going. Janet and her team are excellent aren't they? You hear so many success stories.
