My 5 year old coughed a couple of times when cooling down at the end if a XC schooling session on Sunday. He had Monday off, hacked on Tuesday, again a couple of coughs, dry so hack was short and slow. Pessoaed him last night, 1 cough at beginning, then couple at end. Again I did no fast work just in case. Cough is dry.

Vet will be up as a backstop tomorrow anyway but thoughts? Temp not risen, absolutely no discharge, horse looks well, fed on Haylage and mixed with soaked hay, never coughed before. Only change is that he has been moved onto winter grazing and atm, I am restricting him to half a day as he is gorging himself. I know there is evidence that horses will eat the same in 4 hours or 24 but after 3 days of having a horse resembling winnie the pooh, colic concerns outweighed the desire to leave him out. He is on shavings on rubber matting in a very well ventilated and large barn. Any thoughts?

I know my horse gets an occasional cough but it is usually because he eats so fast. I double up nets and water down hard feed to slow him down a bit because. Dunno if that would help in any way. Lol

Ok. He gets some Haylage on the floor when he comes in as in early now and the remainder in a net to slow him down. The timings would fit!

And sometimes my horse coughs a little if I ride and it's frosty or cold outside. The only other thing I could think of is if the haylage had a bit of mold on or he ate anything wierd in the field. But i think he would be coughing alot more when not riding if it was anything too serious? Just guessing hah

Haylage is good quality and fields looked after so good grazing. Think I will have his Haylage put in a net and just keep him ticking over till the cough has gone! Thanks for your help
