Hi,

I am hoping to find some local help with transport on an occasional basis, and would look at the following options -

1) Self-drive
2) Possibly borrow privately-owned lorry / 4X4 + trailer - and will pay a hire cost for day
3) cheap transporter

Can anyone help? I can't afford to buy my own transport at the moment, and haven't had any luck ringing the local transport companies - they are hugely expensive and never have any availability.

"Occasional basis" = once or twice a month

I'm in The New Forest area in Hampshire (SO43), so anywhere in the vicinity would be great - Southampton, Winchester, Salisbury, Romsey.

Thanks :))

CJ's do self drive. Based in Titchfield.

Very reliable and lovely little box, drives like a car.

Hi BBH
thanks for the reply. I have googled and can't seem to find the company details. Do you have a web address or phone number for CJ's?

there's also Horses-in-motion based in Salisbury who have a couple of 3.5t box for self-drive hire or they can drive for you.

I hired once and it was about £100 a day.

I have a horsebox near Salisbury I don't use that I would let you borrow for £30 a day.... but you'd need to sort insurance and stuff out.

hiya

Have you tried Hayes self drive based in Salisbury or Horse movers in the New forest, both apprently do self drive and transporting.

I am trying to find self drive hire in order to go to a Championships but seemed to be having no luck :(

Have you tried Southern Equine Transport? based in Brook (near Lyndhurst) Speak to Caroline: 07901 566970. There is an email address but they've not long set up and don't think there is a website yet. Not sure if they will offer self drive, but worth asking.

Try www.myrentalhorsebox.com. Its a self drive horsebox network where ordinary owners can make their lorries available for self-drive hire if they are not using them themselves.

Pretty good idea really. I'm thinking of joining myself. What do other people think?

Anyway, they have about 40 lorries all round the country at the moment so might have one near you. Some really good prices too.
