Hello everybody! I have two 3 year stallions and I want to start to train them. Before starting to train I did a complete vet checkup. The clinic exam was ok but Rx's of both of them showed OCD on the stifles. The bloodlines of the horses are completely different. Can anyone tell me if this OCD is really critical and can influence in theirs sport/breed careers.

Depends on the degree of the lesions and where they are located. Most often, when they are diagnosed at age 3, the best option is to operate and remove the lesions.

If you decide to do nothing and just hope for the best its almost guarantied you'll have two very unsound horses in a few years.

^ Defo agree with the above post.. stifles are the worst joint to get OCD in such bad luck they both have it.. if it can be operated on/treated early you give them the best chance of having as much of a useful life as possible, although i think it will rear its head again in later life. Without treatment they will undoubtedly be lame in the future. Also i wouldn't suggest breeding from them if the OCD is not as a result of injury and is inbuilt in them as it is likely it will be passed down in their offspring. Good luck
