My yearling has been on 3 months box rest for mild-moderate OCD in both stifles. Xrays today showed no improvement so vets have recommended an Arthroscopy in both stifles. Any stories would be welcome? He is a very special horse destined for great things, so I am hoping for the best...... he isn't lame at all at the moment.

Mine had an arthroscopy on both hocks, the right was clear but the left had fragments removed. He was a nightmare on the subsequent box rest, but *touch wood* appears totally sound and moving better than ever. He was never 'lame', but deffo moves better now than before. The prognosis seems fairly good for the future. Mine is also hopefully destined for fairly high places (I really, really hope!). Good luck.

my mare had bilateral stifle arthroscopy in feb. after ten months off following the operation she was sound, but after a month of walking and trotting she is not right again - not anywhere near as bad as she was but not 100%. However, she is ten, which is late to be diagnosed, so yours will probably have a much better prognosis :) good luck x

Thanks both of you. Very helpful. I'm hoping to show him next year, he's having his op first week of Jan so may have to miss this year. Good luck to you both too xx

A horse of mine had bilateral arthroscopy a few years back (he was bilaterally lame but it was impossible to tell until he was nerve blocked). Recovery was 9 months box rest which was hell, slowly back in work, pronounced fine a year later, but six months after that symptoms returned.
