Has anybody here had any experience of OCD in their young horse?

My youngster came out of his box lame this morning (in walk) so called the vet asap ( I don't like to mess about to see what happens) and she said it could be just a knock he has done in the stable and he is very stiff or it could be OCD as he has all the right attributes for it (he's a big 4 yr old warmblood). He's on box rest for a week now and bute twice a day and if he is no better in a weeks time he will be going for a lameness work up at the vets! I will be gutted if it is serious, we were just planning his first outing!

Would OCD symptoms come on so fast?

Yes the symptoms can come on very fast.
I have had 2 horses with OCD. My first horse had OCD in his hock (he was 8 mnths) and it swole up over night and he was lame as a duck after scans he had a small peice of bone broken away and had to have an opperation to remove it. His hock was always slightly bigger than the other but he was fine after a couple of months and went on to be very happy jumping. In my experiance OCD can come up very fast, but with my other horse she had it in the shoulder and in looking back at photos of her you can see she always favored the other leg she was only 1 yr when diagniosed. It can be caused by growth plate but it also a copper deficiency. Both my horses were bred at the same farm and there was not enough copper in the water!

Dont panic!!! The vets are brilliant and the great thing is that OCD can be treated and the treatment can be sucessful

If you need any more help let me know
