My mare ate her brekkie this morning but seemed very aggitated which is not like her at all as she is normally so chilled out - Its nothing like I've seen her when she's had colic in the past a couple of times but she was stamping her foot with the same foot continually. She was Digging and like pawing in slow motion. Sometimes her leg would be straight out in front of her off the ground for a few seconds and then more pawing. She isn't rolling or biting at her sides as I have seen her do in the past with colic however I'm a bit concerned as I haven't seen her like this before. She also seems at times to be rocking from side to side but its so slow its hardly noticable and then she will walk round in a circle and start pawing at the ground again. There's no heat in any of her legs and nothing obviously wrong with them. She is rubbing her face from time to time on this same leg that she holds out but again I can't see anything wrong in her mouth or on her leg. She really looks as if she is in pain somewhere but not sure where. There are a lot of flies around this morning but she has been well sprayed with Naff Off and this doesn't seem to be the problem as far as I can see.

Any advice much appreciated confused:.

Possible wasp sting which is why she is rubbing; if it was in or near the ear, might be affecting her balance hence the one way circling.
SN's B had similar to this while with me last year (not the colicy signs) but the rubbing continually and there was nothing to see. She rubbed her face so hard, she nearly skinned her cheek and had to have Noradine, had made a real mess in no time (luckily, no scarring else I wouldn't have been forgiven!) but we found the site of bee sting around her knee!

Do agree though with calling vet out.

The holding out the leg in front of her worries me greatly. A friend recently lost her mare with a twisted gut and she was doing exactly the same, holding her leg out straight. Not all colics present the symptoms you usually see with spasmodic colic. Get the vet out straight away.
