Ive finally been allowed to uncross tie my horse after 7 weeks, so last night he rolled and rolled and bucked inbetween more rolls and I was relieved to see he was still in one piece today. Apparantly hes been a loony today bucking and squeeling in his stable so I was dreading tonights walk. Anyway he was pretty calm and I did my jobs and fed him. He loves food so I was suprised he didnt eat all his tea and then he came back to the door and stood there dozing, he seemed bright when I approached him but he'd normally tuck into his haylage. Do you think hes worn out after todays antics and hes dozing at the door because he's spent 7 weeks tied there. He'd usually stand at the back of his stable to sleep. Apparantly this morning he was going from his breakfast to the door and back again.
Sorry for the daft post but Ive spent the last 7 weeks feeling sorry for him and now Im worrying why hes not his usual self.

He is probably releived.
When Finn was uncross tied after he broke his leg he was a lunatric and kept trying to climb into stuff and out of his box. He also box walked and made hell on earth. But he came right after a bit.

Hes got at least another 4 weeks normal box rest before we can think about turning him out and then its in an area the size of 4 stables. I can walk him in hand daily but we havent made it off the yard yet as he can be a bit of a handful.
I just wondered if he came back to the door to doze because he's spent so long tied there? Didnt eat much last night or today either. I know Im worrying, cant help it.

Have you checked to see if he's running a temp? If not, he's probably a little tired from all the recent exercise and like an earlier poster suggested, relieved.

Thanks for your replies, I didnt think to check his temperature! He was really bright and normal when I got to the stables although he hadnt ate as much haylage. Maybe hes spent more time mooching around and being a loony?
Dont they make you worry

I'd wondered how he was doing, glad to hear that you have got as far as you have with him. When people post about problems it always makes me think of the Thelwell cartoon where the two kids are saying that some children don't have ponies to look after and then say "still they must have problems of their own".

My daughters pony had to be cross tied for 2 months after a leg fracture. She never stopped eating, I think it was boredom, and once she was loose in the stable her appetite did reduce. We then had another month of box rest before turning her out. She appeared totally calm when led to the small fenced off bit of field, grazed quietly so we took off her rope. She exploded! I have never been so scared I was just waiting for the crack of her leg going as she bucked, reared, leapt off all fours etc. However she was fine, but be warned your lad might just do the same. Hope it all goes well for you.
