I've got an odd little dog. She sometimes does things I can't understand.

Her most recent thing is after a walk on the way back to the van she will stop about 30 feet away. I put the rest of the dogs in the van then go back for her. She has a worried little expression on her face, ears pinned back, tail tucked in. I walk maybe 10 feet towards her and just speak to her a bit. Then her demeanour changes, she snaps back to reality, comes trotting over like nothing ever happened and puts herself in the van. She seems to have no aversion to the van, it's something else yet I have no idea what?!

Doesn't want the walk to end? Unhappy with the travelling arrangements/positioning of the others in the van?

How old is the dog, how long have you owned her, how many other dogs do you have - age and sex, how are they travelled, what is the hierarchy in your pack? Need more information!

I've got 2 dogs and my mad old bat has gotten a bit unpredictable in her dotage. Shes had a go at my younger dog while they are in the back of the car a couple of times. Nothing major, just a grumpy old bat warning and nothing he has ever seemed bothered about either now or historically, but hes gotten really funny about getting in the car :( He is keen to go for a walk etc until its apparent we are going in the car and then he does exactly the same.

He comes round exactly as you describe, then happily gets in the car and seems happy to be there etc. I only just worked it out, but he is definitely not happy to be in an enclosed space with her. And its not even that enclosed of a space as we have the back seats down permanently so they have loads of room.

I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do. The old bat is very definitely on borrowed time for a multitude of reasons. Sadly this might be one of them that tips the balance :(

She's about 2 years now and have had her since 11 weeks.

The five dogs travel loose in the van together. That's been the case since she was a puppy. Out of the five there is one more dominant dog than her.

When leaving to go out for the walk she charges out to the van and throws herself in. On the way back she does her 'thing.' She's always very moody on the way home in the van and will growl at the others (same when she's at home when she's tired) however again this has always been the case and the behaviour is very new

Something that's aggravated by exercise causing her discomfort?? Could be worth a vet check.

Her bitchiness seems to be associated with tiredness. First thing in the morning she's a bright happy creature. Even if we have had a day laying in bed (very rare, only if I'm really sick) then she would still be grumpy in the evening. But I guess still something to think about

One of mine had to be persuaded back in the car if he thought the walk wasn't long enough: do you vary the length of walks?

Older lab won't get in the car if younger lab is already in it. It is hard to see why unless you really watch closely and younger just flexes towards the older one as she goes in, it is very disacreet as she would get a *******ing if it was any more. We have to let older get in first, then they are fine.
