I'm completely stumped with this one, wondered if anyone else has had any experience with these symptoms? Right hind lameness only going up hill and only in walk! Is lifting effected leg quite high before putting to ground. Horse is very weak behind as has been off work since autumn. No swelling or heat anywhere. Mctimony practitioner couldn't find anything untoward.

Often a sign of something going on in the back, SI or stifles imo.

Right hind lameness is sometimes associated with ulcers.

Could be saddle as well.

My first guess would be pinching saddle that is biting into her shoulder as you lean forwards to go uphill. Not evident in trot because the greater movement is allowing her to shove the saddle around a bit, but unable to do that in walk, so going short behind.

Thanks for replies, can't be saddle as he does it without any tack on. It almost looks 'stringhalt' in action, but he doesn't have any problems moving backwards.

My dressage horse started being slightly unlevel in walk when extending his front leg forward but not on placing it on the ground which could be similar. It was a deep digital flexor tendon injury within the hoof. Unfortunately because his lameness was so slight and so unusual in how it presented it was career ending by the time we got to the bottom of it. My advice would be to get a lameness work up done with nerve blocks and if it blocks to the foot get an MRI.
