I have a pair of continental reins that have different coloured stoppers - they are not modified, they were made like that.
So, legal or not??¿?

I guess it depends what level and where you are planning to compete. IMHO if you're out affiliating and aiming for the big areas or regionals then I think it could matter more. If you're someone that tootles down to their local, friendly UA every now and then for a bit of fun when opportunity allow - I don't think its a huge deal if someone has some tape on their reins ;)

I've been seriously considering writing L and R discreetly on the top of my thumbs ?

You see - I do think it matters. If you are doing 32 in a 30 mph area, is that illegal or just bending the rules a bit.

Rules are there to make a level playing field for everyone. How would you feel if someone beat up in an UA intro test because they used an aid to help them ride better? Is that fair?

I cannot see that what the OP suggests is not permitted. If it works for you, the judge will not even notice and if they do they will probably think "what a clever idea". The judge is much more focussed on how the horse is going and how the rider influences that.

Continental reins don’t work for me. I still let the reins out. The biggest help for me has been laced reins - I think the fact that they are chunkier but still have a feel that stops me letting the reins slip. I’m very far from perfect, but it’s much better…
