Odd Shaped Pony in Ad

He does have a big crest on him! In the pictures he looks a bit sway backed but it could be because his neck is throwing him out of proportion and he doesn't really have withers. To me he doesn't look like stallion quality (fingers crossed no one buys him with breeding in mind) but he does have a lovely face :)

How can you deduce that he isn't stallion quality from a picture

I think he looks like he has been overweight, I have seen loads of small ponies with massive crests like that when their owners have let them get excessively fat.

i would want to see both him and his youngstock in the flesh before I made comments about his quality as a stallion.

bit srtange i think its the way he is standing
i saw one that looked like he has a seat shape cut out of his back it was so dipped

I think it's because he's standing with his bottom uphill and further from the camera, and there's a weird shadow making him look banana shaped!
Does look cute though :) kind of like a jack russell

He does look a little overweight which probably doesn't help create a very pretty picture but he is stood on a fairly steep slope. Not the greatest advert for him as I would think it doesn't show him at his best at all.I would want to see photos of him on flat ground before making any sort of judgement on his conformation.

I think he is possibly a little lacking in muscle tone over the back end. It is impossible really to tell from the photo, as it is doing nothing positive and everything negative for that pony.

It's only my opinion and you can't judge a lot from a picture and you would definitely need to see it in person, but if I were looking for a stallion of his type the add and those pictures would make me think he doesn't look stallion quality. I mean would you honestly look at those pictures and think 'that's a nice example of section A stallion I'll get it and breed from it'?

But yes definitely would need to see him in the flesh as pictures can do weird and wonderful things.

I've always wondered, how you get that much crest/fat/muscle whatever, on a pony's neck without the rest of its body being lardy?

I think they look sway backed like that. If you wanted to ride it, it would have to wear a banana saddle!

Can't speak for that pony, but I know a man who breeds shetlands for in-hand only. Both his stallions have massive crests, but are kept on the same routine and feed as the mares and geldings. It seems to be a natural thing!

Stallions are surely supposed to be the best possible example of their breed?

This is a Welsh Section A. Apparently been placed and won championship. Doesn't say where though - could well have been at local show rather than county/breed. Rotten picture as all down hill making his back look saggy esp with rested backfoot - don't know why they haven't added the picture of him winning his championship?

I have absolutely no knowledge of Welsh lines - breeding may be good?

But at least he's friendly and likes being washed. Temprament is always important.

I can see loads of mares fighting over him, and heaps of Welsh breeders queueing to use him............

The ad says local...But I think I've found his stud page from when he was born - inc blood lines but I don't know what to look for with sec A's - and he had shown and placed at royal welsh, and got supreme foal champ at a county.

It's his back end rather than his neck that looks wrong to me, it might just be the way he's stood but it looks under developed, and doesn't balence him out.

He's not a strange shape - he's simply standing on a fairly steep hill... Simples.

It's a shockingly bad photo to take to try to sell a horse as on flat ground he probably looks perfectly normal.

Try taking a photo of any of your horses standing on an equally steep hill the same way and I'm sure 99% will look just as odd, you'd just be bright enough not to use that as an advertising photo!

Sure looks a bit weird in this photo, half shire half pony hehhee
My mini stallion is absolutely gorgeous in real life(everyone who sees him says so) but in photo looks gross (all neck and no legs) looks like a frog. :D So pics can be deceiving.

i think he's quite smart.

it would be far better if his owner got him to "stand-up" though, by resting his off-hind does make him look a little lop-sided.

As for stallion quiality..i would want to see his breeding before deciding that..as conformation-wise he doesnt seem too bad

If he was placed at the Royal Welsh he cant be that bad....have you seen how many entries they have in the Section A classes? Personally i just think its a bad pic, hes probably quite nice in the flesh.

I also think he's quite a nice type, just a dreadful pic! Having had a colt by Nantydwell Barcud Ap Bargen, I can honestly say that the bloodline is superb!
Id want to go and see him to be honest, Pics are often misleading.

What an awful photo  - the poor boy is down hill, turning to the side and resting a leg!

We bred him and I can promise he is MUCH nicer than he looks in the photo! He was a very nicely put together foal and a super mover - we had a lot of fun showing him before we sold him at Fayre Oaks.

We have retained a 3yr old full sister that has only been lightly shown but has won at county level and qualified for the welsh nationals this year.

Last years colt out of Pantymel Buddig sold to Holland at Fayre Oaks and we are retaining this years filly to show.

I've always thought it's a shame that he's never come out under saddle so fingers crossed someone will buy him with that in mind!
