HELP!!!
My 5yo tb/Id/coni gelding has very different sized front feet. He was broken last year and was left barefoot for the first 2 months after coming home. I found him to be a bit footy while out hacking so put front shoes on. We were hacking quite a bit but he continually sought the grass so I put back shoes on which seemed to be the answer until he started pulling the front ones off! He is really short coupled and continually overreaches. He is shod every six weeks but I have seen me having the farrier out 3 times within this time, and even within24 hrs! All said and as much as I like my farrier I was sick of seeing him and decided to go barefoot. His feet however as I've already said are different sizes, one being considerably wider than long and the other a size smaller in most of the hoof boots that I looked at. I have a good friend who swears by barefoot riding and recommended easy boot gloves which I went ahead and bought. Granted they didn't fit "perfectly" but we're fine for out on the road at a gentle pace. We were on our 7th outing with these boots and decided to have a canter. He duly overreached and tore one of the gaiters from the boot altogether. I'm at a total loss as to what to do. On grass he schools, jumps and even Xc trains beautifully shoeless, however out hacking (which we enjoy 2-3 times a week) he really feels his feet. Does anyone know of any boots (sold singly due to size difference) that would possibly help with his really wide feet?
There must be a Clarks for horses out there and I can't be the only one with this problem!
