I was just wondering if anyone else had had a problem with the sizing of the rubber long boots from Shires. I only decided to get a pair as I go through short boots and chaps every 6 months or so, I do abuse them and they get wet etc, so buying a nice pair of Ariats is out of the question, I have those for best anyway. I ordered a pair of these boots in shoe size 6.5 from a really nice online retailer who promptly sent them out last week and before I send them back I was wondering if it is normal for them to come up really small. Like so small in the calf that I cannot get them on at all even with nothing on! I am normally a medium in chaps, have normal size calf fittings for my other long boots and have a pair of Hunters that are slim fitting (in a shoe size 6). I am a size 12 in clothes and don't think I have fat calves! I am in a conundrum as whether to order a shoe size 7.5 as to be fair the foot size does not look generous at all and a 7.5 will probably be more accomodating for my feet with thick socks on, not that I have managed to get my feet that far in them and hope that the larger boot has a larger calf fitting or just ask for a refund and accept that they are made for stick insects?!

I can never get long rubber boots on as my calves are too wide apparently! It doesn't matter what the make is or if it about 12 sizes too big. I think they are all designed to be ridiculously narrow!

I think that all long rubber boots are like this in my experience. I too go through so many cheap pairs of jodh boots and chaps and want some longer boots but my legs are the wierdest shape ever and so I have given up hope :(

Thanks for your replies. I think I am better off phoning Hope Valley tomorrow and asking them to measure the larger sized pair of boots. I can normally fit into long boots, hence why I was shocked a not being able to get my foot past the ankle bit! I have non-zipped old leather Regents long boots that are about 15 years old (I got them when I was 15!) and I can still get them on and they were made in the days of one size fits all!
