Oddity on Dressage Saddle - 3 long straps?

Is anyone able to help me as to why a dressage saddle might have three long straps on each side? This particular saddle has two in the standard place and a third sewn to the saddle flap.
It looks to be part of the original design and has been used - but how?
Any help warmly received.
 
its like an over girth it prevents the saddle flaps from riding up or twisting if you push into the blocks on the saddle alot, you will need to put a kind a keeper on your girth to thread it through and it should hopefully have a buckle already on it
 
The Wintec Isabel has a third strap which is sewn on to the bottom of the saddle flap. As was said, it is to keep the saddle flaps down however I find it a fiddly nuisance and cut them off.

Some dressage saddles, including my Albion, also have three long girth straps which are all under the saddle flap. 2 in the 'normal' position and 1 much further forward. This is to cater for horses which need a point strap.
 
Oh I see, thankyou. I was thinking there were two girths required .
Have I understood you correctly then - one girth would have an extra buckle on for the third strap?
Any idea where I would get one or what one would be called in order to google it? I'll look up the Isabel and see where that takes me.
This was a rather hasty local auction purchase for a rather reasonable price - until I got it home and knew something didn't look right!
 
the extra stap needs a buckle so that you can fasten it usually under the tummy shomewhere, and then i find they can move about a bit so i like to have a keep on my girth to thread it through to prevent the extra strap from moving about alot
 
If it's a County dressage saddle you need a specific girth which has a third buckle. They're hard to find though, least they were when I was trying to buy one! Failing that just take the extra strap off!
 
Thanks for all the info everyone. Three buckle girths are really tricky to find! I've scoured ebay and found 1! (Aerborn).

Is it the very long single strap that is attached to the bottom of each saddle flap? My Ainsley dressage saddle has this and you just buckle it to itself over the girth.
