We're hoping to take our horses to some better hacking this summer - looking for some circular rides, mainly off road, with somewhere safe to park up a 4wd/trailer at the start/finish. One of the horses is rising 4 and the other is not great in traffic, hence why we're looking for mainly off-road. The horses don't jump so going on organised fun rides is probably a waste of time/money, plus I don't really fancy having some idiot gallop up behind the 4yo!
Anyone got any suggestions within an hour or so of Warwickshire- Cotswolds/West Mids would be ideal.

Hi, a group of us did a riding weekend in October round the Cotswolds, we are based in Warwick. We rode from Bredon Hill (the trailer parking wasn't great here and we had other people take the trailers to our destination) and then we hacked to Broadway (which was virtually off road) and then we hacked to Moreton by the Water on the second day (33 miles in total) it was amazing planning on doing another weekend in April doing a similar route! :)

There used to be a lot of people boxing up to where my old yard was, 40,000 acres of the Charlton Abbots estate, other people aren't meant to ride on it but they do. There's a fun ride there every September in aid of RDA that will show you the routes then other people box up and do them all through out the year.

Cirencester Park is also fab, I hacked my old share there once and got totally lost, dropped the reins and he found his way back to the exit on his own! :D

Bredon Hill area - the WBRA has been looking for parking for horseboxes/trailers for some time, so if anyone knows somewhere suitable please get in touch
www.wbra.co.uk

The WBRA has several parking places for members on farms, livery yards, private yards, etc. etc. where members can leave their lorry and go and explore the local bridlepaths, near to good routes.

Need somewhere in the Malvern area too!

There was a launch of a book back in the early Autumn, with several riding routes in the Cotswolds. Think it was BHS - Gloucestershire? They had a ride from Cotswold Farm Park to launch it.

Ha ha! I would recommend a guide up there, even I'm not sure where I'm going sometimes!

Never heard of Moreton on the water, where's that??

:D neither have I, it was actually Bourton on the water sorry, geography, places are not my strong point. Yes we rode from Broadway to Bourton on the Water stayed at a B&B in Broadway and some mates of a mates mansion just outside Bourton on the Water

A guide I would not be

Cripes, that must have been quite a trek!

That must hae been a very long way. I keep my horse at the bottom of bredon hill and have family in bourton on the water, its a long way to go. Would be interested to know what route you took.

Broadway to Bourton on the Water sounds great! Please post route if at all possible!

I went for a riding holiday with Bridlerides a few years ago and we were very close to Bourton-on-the Water. Lovely rides around there.

Bredon hill is good, not very good for parking(not that is a problem for me as my horse lives at the bottom of the hill :D). Worth going to take a look at the elephant stone (Or banbury stone i think its calles) on a good day the views are amazing! Horses need to be ok with sheep really as usually sheep in most fields:)

The wyre forest near Kidderminster is lovely. Plenty of parking on hard standing at the visitor centre, well marked out routes and open all year, you can turn up and ride for a day. Full details are on www.wbra.co.uk.

ohhhh I can see a money making opportunity here, I can charge you all to take you on our very route :D I'll find it on the map and then highlight it and upload it.

It was an absolutely fab weekend, like I said parking at Bredon Hill is rubbish and we literally got dropped off at the foot of the Hill and a nice lady and her horse who we met when we were tacking up set us on the right way. Bredon hill is just absolutely beautiful! We stopped at a pub for lunch at the other side of the hill (I am so rubbish at names I can't remember the name of it (I'll ask my mate and pass this on to) and then we rode to Broadway to the B&B which was also really lovely (can't remember the name for that either, will ask my mate) but it was £60.00 the night for us and the horses (stables). The landlady even dropped us off at the pub down the road for dinner and we walked back. The next day we rode to another pub (actually its the one that you pass on the Cotswold fun ride near Adam's farm, rode past the valley you know the one with the jump into the woods - they weren't impressed when we got our lunge lines and tagged them from one side of the beer garden to the other to tie the horses up) and then onto Bourton on the Water to my mate of a mates mansion which had stabling stayed there the night (went to another pub that night) and then came home in the morning I reckon we rode for about 11 hours in total over the two days. We walked most of the first day with a few trots thrown in and actually got off and walked them quite a lot , the second day we got a bit more of a wiggle on and had some gorgeous canters - the horses loved it and like I say planning on doing another one this April! Can't wait but its bound sure to be full of disasters as this one was so totally brill!

^^^

sorry got carried away, but honestly it was brilliant!

Cant blame u for getting carried away that must of been a great couple of days with some amazing views! might think about giving that a go if i get the time, got family in bourton on the water, and horse stabled pretty much at bredon hill so should be quite easy for me :D
Thanks for shareing!

I'm fairly sure the pub passed on the Farm Park fun ride is the Hollow Bottom, has a pic of Bindaree outside , IIRC.

ah I thought you meant the pub at Bredon Hill the pub on the Cotswold Ride is Half Way something or other I thought, but you could be right
