Hitting the road tomorrow to get my boy to Rockley to hopefully help sort his ddft injuries, just hoping the 300miles go by quickly, also that its not too windy!

It couldn't come quickly enough really, he's fed up of his current turnout around the stable yard (field is a bog) and he destroys his rug if I turn him out on our track. So just need a spruce up tonight when I put him to bed, then pick up my little hire box and stuff it full of food for both of us. Setting off after the first rush so hoping we won't hit too much traffic either :)
 
Have a safe drive! Ive just come home from a big inhand walk with mine that took us past a stately home and to the banks of the Thames. Rockley has been the biggest thing that happened for me last year and I wish you all the best.
 
Thank you. I don't know what I'm hoping for really, just that after three months restricted rest with me, with wedges on for 8 weeks he's still not sound. So if he can come back retirement sound I'd love it, hacking sound would be great, and anything more would blow my mind! Plus I'm entirely fed up with restricted rest and looking after an increasingly cranky horse! Especially as I washed his tail this morning, and pulled the wagon ramp down, he needed to poo about 10 times from the stress!

I'm glad your girl us getting on well, can only hope for some of that :)
 
Good luck. You've got about a four in five chance of a rideable horse in twelve weeks time. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
 
good luck with the journey. Lots of rain down here in the West Country and more to come so it will feel like "home from home" for him!!

I'm pretty certain that one of my horses was written off, shoved in a Spanish auction and bought as part of a job lot, we fell in love with him knowing he was a bit knackered and might not come sound given the state of his hooves but he did SF, by giving him a chance to go BF.
i will keep my fingers crossed that you have the same success xxxxx
 
Thank you for all your wishes and good luck. The lovely shiny hire equitrek has been packed, rugs, tack and immense nets if hay and haylage. Haylage he'll scoff as we don't have it normally and I stole a nets worth from a friend (paid in wine). Also packed a literal truckload of snacks to be eaten with one hand for me

Just need to pack the tack box in (with added hammer and Swiss army knife just in case...) and the ned and I can go. Just as soon as I've dropped mini at nursery and been to a doctors appt. Hopefully be on the road just as rush hour ends.

Hopefully I'm not boring you all, will keep you updated :)
 
Fingers crossed, mine had been lame on and off for 18 months when I sent him down there and about 5 weeks in I was having a lovely hack across Exmoor.

Have a safe trip and make sure you have Nic's directions on hand for the last bit of the journey.
 
Criso- Stop getting my hopes up!! I found it pretty easily, the OH had been a clever clogs and pinned it on the satnav so it took me straight there. Someone stopped me, hunt followers I think and asked if I was lost when I was just on the lane leading to it, I said not yet anyway lol. Anyone hunting today needs their head examined, it was torrential when I arrive, in daylight by the skin of my teeth.

Alo, let me know of your friend needs anything before I pop back in the morning.

Left Norman happily stuffing his face (timed arrival for feed time it seemed) althought he neighed when I opened the ramp bless him, in fact he neighed when I arrived at our yard this morning, then fretted til I got him on board, must have done 7 poos in about 15 minutes! Journey was bliss, no traffic, only stopped for ten mins to offer water ( refused) then got on our way again.

Looking forward to visiting tomorrow before I head home, after he's spent a night romping around his huge stable :)
 
Just seen this, glad to hear of your safe arrival, tbh it's not as bad a run as it sounds from our neck of the woods if the traffic is kind (just don't get lost on the way back like I did on my 1st journey... took the wrong exit off the M5 and ended up going a VERY interesting route back the the M1). Fingers crossed for you anyhow :)

Thats interesting, you'll have to let me know which yours is (Nic said she had a tall bay and a smaller piebald in atm if I remember?!). Good luck to you too, I had a lovely stay in the Premier Inn in Barnstaple before driving back :)
 
Mine is the lanky bay! Bit worried about him keeping weight on while he's there as he's a real dreamer and would rather stand and star gaze than eat! I'm going down to visit him this Sunday (I live in Bristol so not a million miles away).
What's yours ? I'll look out for him when I go down :-)
 
Mine is the large (probably dirty) grey - 16.1 so not as big as yours! Hopefully he's made a few friends now. its unlikely I'll get down to visit, although not impossible. He likes neighing at me, although probably only because he knows I am a bringer of treats :)

What is yours in there for?
 
We've had intermittent lameness in both front legs for the past 9 months, had corrective shoeing but he was still lame on and off so I asked for an MRI a few months ago which showed he's got a small lesion to his DDFT in the left fore. Had remedial shoeing after this by a specialist farrier but he was still lame so I put my name down for Rockley. Sadly my insurance money has run out now but I feel it will be money well spent.
What about your guy?

Hi there.. I'm new to the forum so sorry if I make any silly mistakes..

I hope your horse has settled into rockley well.. I was just wondering if your horse had counter rotated pedal bones?

My horse has been diagnosed with counter rotation in the off hind and has been consequently shod with wedges behind.. Whenever she does something ridiculous or works hard she goes 'dodgy' shall we call it! A few weeks later after light work she comes right again..

By dodgy I mean a short step the stride before she walks on a downward transition.. I then back off give her a few easy weeks and we are ok again..

This stop start has been going on since June.. I'm getting increasingly interested in going barefoot.. But am SCARED!!!
I'm worried that my extremely costly shoes are a load of rubbish and not working in the least.

Has anyone had any experience of counter rotation?? Was this what caused your horse to be put in wedges??
