off topic but holiday luggage blurb needing decoding for idiot!!

I am taking my little boy on holiday for the first time ever (He's 1)

I'm hiring a car as the villa is about an hour from the airport

to hire a baby seat with the car it is 80 euros!!!! and i don't know where it has been (like a riding hat i wouldn't use someone elses etc)

i'd rather take dexters with us
we could squeeze it as it is one of those 2 part jobbies into a suitcase on it's own but then i loose the baggage allowance and we're only allowed two bags for the 3 of us

but it says on jet 2's website that:

It means they won't accept responsibility if it gets trashed

You see car seats all the time on the conveyors at airports. Stick your name and address on teh back with sticky lables, tape etc, so if it does go astray it finds its way back to you.

I can only assume it's like a 1st come 1st served basis. I have seen people putting child seats in the hold. Have to say have never flown Jet 2 though. I would give them a ring and ask.

If I were you I'd hire the car seat with the car, or buy a cheap one that won't matter so much if it gets trashed (although cheap and car seats don't do hand in hand!). I wouldn't take my usual car seat because if they damage it you're stuck at the airport with no seat to get your son home. Maybe buy one second hand before you go?

Whenever we've flown with baby accessories (buggies, seats etc) something has come out the other end damaged because quite frankly luggage handlers just throw them around (just watch Airline reruns on Sky travel to see how much abuse buggies get!)

We've hired cars with car seats and the seats have served a purpose but that's about it. Yes you don't know where they've been but the car hire company will still have a duty of care to provide a seat within EU safety regulations. They'll be no frills car seats but they should be safe.
