I just want to say thanks to H&H forum as im currently selling my horse and his ad has only been on horse mart from this afternoon and this evening i get a really weird email from someone saying they want to buy him, pay by paypal this evening and collect him by their shipper tomorrow!

It rang alarm bells to start with and despite thinking a bit fat NO! i started digging for more info...

The address they finally gave me was in Manchester and when i did a search on Google it didnt exist, they wouldnt give me a phone number as they were abroad on business and couldnt speak due to the nature of their business

I did a search on the net about this scenario and came across someone else with the same issue on these forums a while ago so i did what it said to do and ask them for a bank transfer instead of pay pal and they said they couldnt do that and that paypal was the only way and have now vanished from contact!!

The person whos name is on the email is LiLian Dyna so everyone beware!!

Im not selling my boy to just anyone anyway, he needs to go to a loving 5 star home!! :)

This is a well known scam. I think most people who put email addresses in their ads get one or two of these scammers contact them. They usually offer to pay more than the horse is worth and then ask for your bank details!

that's just crazy! The thing with Paypal is that people can reverse payments once they've made them.

When I was selling a horse before, I also had some weird ones contact me - asking to buy him unseen, and said they would transfer the money into my bank account - I just had to provide the bank details.
Hmmm, no, I don't think so.

I asked them to come to meet me and the horse - made an appointment, got the horse all shining and glowing - of course they didn't turn up. They also never answered their phone and said they were away on business and couldn't take calls.

Be careful!

I was advertising a horse on Horsemart a month ago. I got the same message from this very person the same afternoon that I placed the ad. I did not respond.

I feel your frustration with this as I am currently trying to sell my sports car and have had several scams via emails and phone calls....
They just get so annoying!!

Best of luck with your sale though

Do not trust this man/woman, whatever they are. I have recently had 'it' contact me concerning the sale of my mountain bike. It all began with the same email and the working away for the Government excuse. After a bit more digging I confronted 'it' and said several people had labeled them as a scammer. This is the reply I received "For ********** sake,am i only the one in the whole wile world with that name.My real name is Lyndi Wayne and you can search it on Facebook" After searching for the 'real' name on facebook it turns out Lyndi Wayne lives in Cardiff and goes to Cardiff Uni. 'It' then said that yes that was them, to which I very nicely (ahemmm) asked them to cease contacting me.

DO NOT DO ANY SORT OF DEAL WITH THIS PERSON IT IS A SCAM!!!!

They're not interested in buying a horse. Nor any of the other countless items they offer to buy. It's a well known scam, do not touch.

I have just been trapped in a paypal scam by a person called Lilian Dyna. I'm only 15 years old and had to make a hard decision to sell my horse and I feel sick with the thought nearly being caught in this. I received a weird email and I instantly thought it was a funny scam. This person is an EVIL HUMAN that needs to be caught, I don't know how people can do such an evil thing to other people. I only realised I was caught in this scam when I typed her name into google and found this forum. If you are selling ANYTHING that has a name with LILIAN DYNA do not reply to her for your own good. Thank you :-)

Thanks so much for this warning. A friend of mine has brought on a young horse for someone (who is not the most caring of owners) and it is now to be sold, via paypal. The owner had a reply from a person in Manchester who also happened to be out of the countyr!! I've passed on what you've all said to my friend. A disgusting scam.

Have had similar emails to which I have never responded. The latest from Dave Walker claiming to be from UK - quite clearly isn't - and wanting to make a quick purchase. If it looks too good to be true, it invariably is...

Of course it is a total scam and has been around in various forms for several years now. But I have to say I have not one ounce of sympathy for anyone who would allow their horse/pony to be bought and picked up sight unseen.

I know with the scam it would never actually come to this as they are not interested in getting the horse - just your bank account or pay pal details - but for you to be duped you have to agree to letting your animal be picked up by someone you have never met, hasnt even tried your horse and with absolutely no idea of the sort of home it will be going to. Shame on you I say. And greed of course enters into the deal doesn't it?.:(

had text back from my friend, re my earlier post. Same person! She needs to be stopped

It's not likely to be a person, but an organisation. or at least a person with a variety of assumed names. To be honest, if you're gullible
enough to be taken in by scams like this, I don't think you should be trading an the internet! It's a dangerous place for the uninformed.

Can't help but agree. You would sell your horse to someone you've never even met and know nothing about? I guess you don't like your horse much. :(

Seriously? You are 15, and selling your horse through paypal on the internet? I'm sad that you have no adult taking responsibility. :(

I'm pretty certain it's illegal for under-18s to have a Paypal account, anyway.

ACTUALLY, my parents are involved, but I was the one that received the email. and for your information, I don't have a paypal account, neither does my parents and they were disgusted by this email from Lilian Dyna.

I'm sorry I know you're very young but when you said you were "trapped in a Paypal scam" I not surprisingly assumed you had Paypal. :)

There is almost definitely no such person as "Lilian Dyna". The internet is full of such scams, many of them by criminal organisations, as I'm sure your parents are aware. There's not much point in being shocked and disgusted by them, you just need to be on your guard, all the time.

As others said it happens to any one that puts an email address I certainly have had then when I sold my last horse can't believe anyone even got to the stage of being suspicious and having to google it, an obvious scam which h&h regularly print warnings about.
Can't believe anyone would fall for it though, but the fact they keep trying they obviously do!
And agree shame on any of you gullibles for being tempted!

I once got offered a horse for £600. All I had to do was pay £300 by money transfer for his 'shipping' to the Uk. Apparently he was a very well bred Appaloosa called 'Hiya' and when I transferred £300 they would send me a video tape telling me his likes and dislikes. Lucky me... Told them to **** off
