Yes we have had another debate in our office today, this time its about the GN, not the usual ''its cruel'' but this time about why the winners are never ridden by women jockeys.

Apparently is because women are not strong enough, nor do they have the guts or the stamina and has nothing to do with being sexist, they are not asked to ride the runners with a half a chance winning because the horse requires a man to get it round, of course my reply was that women do ride in the National however there are less women jockey's therefore obviously fewer selection of talented women riders to choose from but I was fighting a loosing battle.

I don't think they were being sexist, they truly believe a woman is just not cut out for the ride over National fences and therefore would reduce the chances of the horse getting placed if taken round by a woman jockey.

So folks, what do you think?

I think i would agree - i think even if jockeys were evenly split 50:50 women to men i still think the men would win the national more times on average. I am a woman so im not being sexist but in some sports and fields of sport men are stronger - its just how it is - it would be nice for women and men to be equal in everything but we are built differently which sometimes gives men the advantage and sometimes gives us the advantage.

Not sure how the female jockeys rank in different countries, but if they can win in flat racing I don't see why they could not win over jumps with the right horse?

wasnt there one last year riding in the grand national or am i just dreaming !!!
but i do agree there are less women jockey's
im not be sexist but i dont think i would put my money on a woman jockey but defently like to see them get round the course without falling ,just to prove apoint woman jockeys can ride the grand national course

But running over the GN fences isn't a test of brutual strength? And the argument doesn't stack up when you consider the top female event riders at say Badminton?
